Here's a preview of what I'm working on now (I have to get more trim to finish). It's another anthro knock-off I mentioned here. I'll have a tutorial for it once I find 10 more yards of the trim. My Joann's didn't have the right one so I'll probably have to wait until I go to Vegas again.

I also really want to make this skirt. (Really? $160 for this?)

It just has a gathered waist band in the back so I wouldn't have to add a zipper. So easy!

I was thinking I could make my own striped fabric if I couldn't find it. Do you know of any good online fabric stores? Do you think it would be as cute (or cuter) in a chevron pattern?

tutorial {kinda}: anthropologie potentilla bib necklace

This tutorial is all over the web right now so I'm not going to go into too much detail. Flamingo Toes has a tutorial here with more detail you can check out if you're interested. Anyway, I was looking for a fairly easy necklace that a bunch of teenage girls could do for a church activity.

I thought this would be easy enough. Here's the original (retailed for $138).

It's basically four 4-petal flowers for the big one, and three 3-petal flowers for the small ones, stacked on top of eachother.

They are sewn together with a few stitches in the middle and tightened so the flower scrunches a little.

Instead of using beads, I sewed a few pieces of scraps in the middle.

The activity with the girls went pretty well. A few of them might actually wear what they made. :-) We used a bunch of old knit tank tops so we didn't have to buy any fabric. The chain was only 50 cents a foot, jump rings and clasps cost about $4. It ended up costing about $12 for 7 girls to make a necklace.

Since I prefer leather, I whipped up this one in baby pink. I made it a little smaller and really like it.

photography: going manual

I have a dSLR (Canon Rebel) but in the couple years I've had it, I haven't taken the time to actually learn how to use it in manual mode. It's my goal for this summer. I'm looking at some online classes to take but found this SLR simulation that is awesome for practicing manual.

Paper Heart Camera wrote a nice tutorial about going manual and included this photography cheat sheet.

I also like the post here and here is a list of posts that help with learning manual mode and taking better pictures in general. There is so much out there to help go manual, I suppose the only excuse I have is that I'm lazy. And that's not much of an excuse.

hualapai mountains

This first shot is one of my favorite views of the Hualapai (wall-uh-pie) Mountains. I see this view everyday--it would only take a few minutes from my house to drive to the mountains in front. The larger one in back is maybe 20 minutes away. This makes me happy.

This picture is another view of the same Hualapia mountains. This one was taken today and we've had storms and rains coming in and out through out the day. The top of the mountain is hidden under the clouds and I love it.

**Today I learned if you give your kids marshmallows they will put up with you while you go home for your camera and go back out to take a few pictures (and it's time to go manual).**

I really love photoshop. I finally learned how to properly add a texture or filter overlay.

I've been wanting to learn this selective color for awhile now. There are so many awesome photoshop tutorials out there. I just google what it is I want to learn how to do and I get tons of results. This one was super easy.

Stupid blogger was down for a couple days. My post from Wednesday was restored but not the comments. I saw two comments, if there were any others, sorry I missed them!

So, to Mr. Tiny: Thanks! You can not have all the talents! I look at all the crazy amazing things you've sewn and wonder why I can't even sew a straight line. I'd love to sew more of my own clothes but it just never turns out right. I have an apron you made and I marvel at the seams everytime I see it. Why can't I do that?
