uh, valentine's day?

Yesterday I made these no-bake cookies. I had never made any sort of no-bake cookies before.

I was kind of scared at first:

But they were kind of good and I may or may not have eaten enough to make myself sick. 

So, I don't really do Valentine's Day. I don't expect anything from my husband and don't really plan anything special for my kids besides a small little treat. I don't make pink and red hearts to decorate the house with. But I make cookies and buy little Valentine's plates. (And I kept myself from eating them all today so we could have some after dinner. And that was very hard for me.)

Good enough in my book.

uncraftiness

I haven't felt much like crafting anything lately. (I don't really consider making subway art on Photoshop "crafty".) Mostly because I'm living in a temporary rental house until we close on our real house in 4-ish weeks. I think this [rental] house stifles my creativeness. Maybe because it has green gingham and yellow sunflower curtains with a matching green and yellow duck valance. Seriously. I wouldn't joke about that.

I'm hoping my new leather gets here soon so I can get back to actual fun things. I also ordered other fun things that you'll see later. Thank goodness for the internet, my closest Joann's is 30 minutes away.

In the mean time I'm having fun looking around at new house things.

Maybe a couple of these for our bathroom. (We'll probably make the bases ourselves.)

Maybe concrete flooring for a change.

I really want this paint in the living room, color to be decided.

I plan on making one of these, not exactly like that, but same general idea.

I looove fixer-uppers.

subway art & free printable

4/13/13 update. I replaced the star wars jpeg with a higher resolution but I'm not sure it'll blow-up to a larger size.

Apparently, subway art is pretty big right now. I keep seeing it on all the blogs, Etsy, everywhere. I decided I'd try it out and see what I thought. I started with this boys' Star Wars themed one. My boys are Star Wars crazy. My two year old often picks out Attack of the Clones or A New Hope to watch. My 7 year old got Revenge of the Sith for Christmas and hasn't stopped watching it since.

You are free to print this out for your home use, it should be a large enough file. If it's not, I'm sorry, I tried Right click on it and 'save picture as,' save it and upload to Costco or wherever.

If I find you selling it on Etsy though I'll sue your pants off. :-)

I also made a family one. I have all our first and middle names. (My first son and I share middle names, which is why it's on there twice.) My kids both have the year they were born next to their names. January 2001 was when my husband and I were married. I also added the three places we've lived since we've been married.

I'm not sure that I would ever have this printed to hang in my home. I don't know that I'm completely into it. But I may have the Star Wars one printed for the play room or the boys' bedroom.

Is this considered subway art? Is there a technical definition of subway art? I might hang something like this in my kitchen to remind me that, while it's hard not to yell and scream at obnoxious, fighting boys, I can do hard things.

What would your subway art say? Are you into it?

studio quality pictures at home with a $12 set up

This is just amazing. The picture turned out perfectly. The materials for the set up are only about $12. I can't wait to try this out on my shop pictures.

This is my friend Kayli. She's living in Switzerland for a couple of years and is very hilarious. She had this picture of herself and her newest baby (#5!). She liked the picture but didn't like all the stuff in the background. I'm so like that. I hate background clutter in pictures.

So, here you go! The side wood panel to the right was a little too small to pick up a decent pattern so I could cover the pictures. I decided to just make it a wall. The table is a little bit not straight but I got tired of messing with it. I took out the highchair on the table and the rug on the bottom right. I love the retro, orange kitchen tiles but covered those and the (oven?) with the dark wood panel (was that a cabinet above the retro tiles?) It's probably not good enough to blow up and hang over the mantel, but good enough for a scrapbook (or a blog), I think.

So, I didn't exactly ask you if I could plaster your picture all over my blog, but you did ask a photoshop person to get rid of the clutter and I did... so really I kind of had permission. Right?
